Design Editor & Cut File Generator
Use the built-in canvas editor to create proofs with configurable cut shapes, bleed, and production-ready output files.
Proofed includes an interactive design editor powered by Konva.js that lets you create proofs and cut files without leaving Shopify.
Opening the Editor#
From any order detail page, click Design/Edit proof on a line item. The editor opens with a live canvas where you position artwork inside a cut shape.
Adding Source Artwork#
You can load artwork from three sources:
- Upload a file — PDF, SVG, AI, PNG, or JPG. Vector formats are automatically converted to PNG at 300 DPI.
- Use an existing image — select an image already attached to the line item (e.g. customer-uploaded artwork).
- Paste a URL — enter any image URL to load it directly onto the canvas.
Cut Shapes#
Choose from five shape options:

| Custom | Automatic contour tracing — detects the product outline from the image |
Configuration Controls#
- Output dimensions — set the physical width and height in mm, cm, or inches.
- Bleed — adjustable bleed width for material allowance beyond the cut line.
- Corner radius — rounded corners for rectangular shapes.
- Bubble border — a white perimeter border inside the cut shape for visual separation.
- Image position — X/Y positioning of the artwork within the canvas.
- Image scale — proportional sizing (1.0 = artwork fills the canvas width).
- Unit switching — seamlessly switch between mm, cm, and inches at any time.
The editor analyses your order line item text for size and shape hints and suggests appropriate defaults. It also reads image DPI metadata to calculate accurate physical dimensions.
Output Files#
When you save, three production-ready files are generated simultaneously:
1. Proof PNG#
A screen-optimised preview image (150–500 DPI, adaptive based on physical size). This is the image shown to the customer in the approval portal.
2. Cut PDF#
A VersaWorks-compatible PDF containing a CutContour colour-space vector outline. Ready for Roland GX/GS vinyl cutters and similar equipment.
3. Cropped PDF#
Production-ready artwork cropped to the cut shape, without the cut line overlay. Useful when you only need the shaped artwork without a separate cut layer.
All three files are available for download from the order detail page once the proof is saved.
Message Templates in the Editor#
You can select a saved message template directly from the editor before saving. The note is attached to the proof and shown to the customer in the approval portal.
