Getting Started with Canvas Design Studio

Install the app, add the storefront block, and set up your first template so customers can start designing.

Overview#

Canvas Design Studio turns any product page into a full design studio. Customers create their own artwork — labels, apparel prints, stickers, signage, engraving art and more — in a polished drag-and-drop editor on your storefront. When they add to cart, a print-ready production file is attached to the order.

Step 1: Add the Storefront Block#

  1. Open your theme editor (Online Store → Themes → Customize).
  2. Navigate to a product page template.
  3. Add the Design your own app block and position it where you want the button to appear.
  4. Optionally customise the button label and colors to match your theme.

No code is required — the block works with any Online Store 2.0 theme.

Step 2: Create a Template#

  1. From the app dashboard, open the Studio and create a new template (or start from one of the included professionally designed ones).
  2. Set your print dimensions in inches, cm or mm, along with bleed, safe zone, and DPI (300 DPI is the default).
  3. Design the starting point your customers will see — add placeholder text, image placeholders, and background artwork.

Step 3: Attach the Template to Products#

  1. Open the Products manager in the app.
  2. Assign your template to specific products, or set a default template as a fallback.

Step 4: Test Before Going Live#

Use the Setup guide and preview tokens in the dashboard to test the customer experience on your storefront before publishing.

When Orders Come In#

Every order with a custom design appears in your Designs gallery. Download the production files — high-res PNG, production PDF with bleed, vector SVG, and cut-path die-line — with one click and send them straight to print.
