Templates, Lockdown & Customer Modes
Control exactly how much creative freedom each product gets — from a fully open studio to a simple fill-in form.
Templates#
Templates are the starting point for every customer design. You build them in the same studio your customers use, with merchant-only authoring tools such as image placeholders. The app also ships with professionally designed starter templates across categories: labels, apparel, events, social, advertising, and logos.
Each template carries its own print specs — dimensions, bleed, safe zone, and DPI — so different products can have completely different output requirements.
Per-Template Lockdown#
For each template you can:
- Restrict fonts to an approved set
- Restrict colors to your brand palette
- Lock dimensions and backgrounds so they can't be changed
- Hide entire tool tabs (e.g. remove uploads or shapes)
- Auto-apply image filters such as grayscale or 1-bit threshold for engraving products
The Three Customer Modes#
Every template runs in one of three modes:
| Mode | What the customer sees |
|---|---|
| Full designer | The complete editor — text, uploads, stock photos, shapes, QR codes |
| Simplified form | A short form (name, date, message) that flows into your locked design |
| Inline mode | The live design canvas replaces the product gallery image |
Inline mode uses smart gallery detection — the customer's design renders exactly where the product photo normally sits, giving a native storefront experience rather than a popup.
Product Binding#
Attach templates to specific products from the Products manager. You can also set default-template fallbacks so new products are covered automatically.
